The Köeppen-Geiger (K-G) climate classification at the study area at mid-latitudes in South America, from the Atlantic coast up to the Andes pre-mountain range. Following K-G climate symbols: Af = tropical rainforest, Am = tropical monsoon, Aw = tropical savannah, BSh = arid steppe hot, BSk = arid steppe cold, Cwa = temperate dry winter and hot summer, Cwb = temperate dry winter and warm summer, Cfa = temperate without dry season and hot summer, Cfb = temperate without dry season and warm summer.
