Scatterplots (a, c, d) of species juvenile density (stems ha−1) by site plotted against distance to live, conspecific seed source for lodgepole pine, ponderosa pine, and Douglas-fir. Sites at which no live conspecific seed source was observed are not plotted. Solid lines represent predicted values and the regions between the dotted lines represent the 95% confidence intervals on those predicted values. Boxplot (b) compares lodgepole pine juvenile density (stems ha−1) at sites with and without extant cones on snags. Per the Kruskal-Wallis rank sum test, there were significantly more lodgepole pine juveniles at sites with extant cones (χ2 = 15.702, P < 0.001). Data were collected in 2016 on the Tripod Complex in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, Washington, USA
