The Buff-breasted flycatcher is nearly absent in areas that had no evidence of recent fire (severity index 0) and areas with recent low-severity (severity index 1–2) fire but is much more common in areas with recent high-severity (severity index 3–4) fire within the low-elevation ponderosa pine forests in southern Arizona (from Conway and Kirkpatrick 2007).
