Overlap of areas burned by wildfire in the western United States since 1987 (in black) with the distribution of select amphibian species (in gray) that represent a range of the life-history strategies and fire regimes. Species distributions were mapped using a combination of Amphibian Atlas and Gap Analysis data. Wildfire data were compiled from several sources (unpublished data, USGS Snake River Field Station).
