Linear regression lines generalize the relationship between fuel moisture and soil moisture at two sampling locations over four sampling events in two South African grasslands. Analysis of deviance indicated that, over all sites and locations, soil moisture was a significant term in a linear mixed-effect regression model (χ ² = 3.97, P = 0.05, 95% CI = 0.01 to 0.08). Sampling period spans end of the growing season into late winter. Each symbol represents mean of two samples per sample point, and differences in line and character shape represent spatially discrete sampling points within study locations.
