Ability to colonize a substrate is assumed to enhance colonization so 1 tail probability is used. Where P(1-tail) ≤ 0.05, mean residual for colonists is ≥ mean residual for non-colonists; ns = no significant difference between mean of residuals for colonists and non-colonists. Note that species included are only those for which substrate preferences are known (61 species).
