Deterministic succession transitions are shown as black lines; transitions resulting from stochastic non-lethal and stand-replacing fires are shown in orange and red, respectively. Each state is defined by one of five tree size classes (see Tables 1 and 3) and one of four canopy closure classes: open (<10 %), low (10 % to 39 %), moderate (40 % to 69 %), and high (>69 %).
